Notices to passengers
Cash and Pix
Not every ticket counter takes cards, and Pix (Brazil's instant payment system) usually needs a Brazilian bank account. Carry enough cash in reais.
Wet landings
Sometimes you step straight off the boat onto the sand. A backpack and flip-flops beat a wheeled suitcase.
Tide and weather rule
Shallow stretches depend on the tide; rough seas can change the route. Check on the day.
Arrive early
Be at the pier 30–45 min before departure: boats leave full.
Porters
At the Velha Boipeba pier, porters carry bags in wheelbarrows — prices are set by luggage size.
Seasickness
The Salvador–Morro leg is the roughest. If you get seasick, take the land route to Valença or Graciosa.
04 · Frequently asked questions
Is there an airport on Boipeba?
No. The nearest landing strip is at Fazenda Pontal, in the south of Tinharé island, used by air taxis from Salvador; from there you cross by boat. According to our source (Sep 2026) there are no regular commercial flights.
Can I land at Salvador airport and reach Boipeba the same day?
Only if your flight lands early (by ~10am) and your transport is already booked, or by air taxi. Sources recommend spending a night in Salvador.
Can I take a car to the island?
No. Private cars aren't allowed on Boipeba. Leave yours in a paid car park in Valença, Graciosa or Torrinhas.
Which route is best if I get seasick?
Ferry + road to Valença or Graciosa, then the speedboat through the sheltered channels. The Salvador–Morro catamaran spends about 1h30 on the open sea.
How do I get from the pier to my guesthouse?
From the Velha Boipeba pier you walk, with porters pushing wheelbarrows for your luggage; to Moreré there is a tractor-drawn trailer bus and quad bikes (fixed fares).
